“Summer”
Red Oak
Dimensions: 91″ x 16″ x 12″
Artist’s Statement: The idea of my work “Summer” refers to the figure of a woman, mother of earth, wrapped in a robe decorated with plant and floral motifs. The woman’s face is slightly tilted, but at the same time turned to the sky, to the sun. The whole figure is supposed to be a connection of the earthly world – the world of nature with the universe. Inset in the wood are ceramic bees, meant to evoke Albert Einstein’s quote, “If the bee disappeared off the surface of the globe, then man would have only four years of life left.”
